Ekspan are structural engineering specialists, operating in the mechanics of movement control for large loads on bridges and in most structural applications. We offer full product and site support - from design, manufacture supply and installation, to inspection, site maintenance and replacement work. Our depth of knowledge and expertise enables us to provide structural solutions by way of consultancy support or the delivery of a complete project management service.
The opportunity has arisen for a Mechanical Design Engineer within the Engineering Design Department. The primary responsibility will be to integrate with the current design team and aid with the design of various structural bearings through means of calculations, modelling, Finite Element analysis and production of fabrication drawings and general assemblies.
Key responsibilities will include:

Designing structural bearings through the various stages of design beginning with the calculations.

Applying techniques such as design for manufacture, design for assembly and installation and concurrent engineering

Preparing General Arrangement drawings and producing detailed drawings for manufacture

Support of the designs life cycle (Product Lifecycle Management) from Concept through to Installation and Service

Providing support to Customers (Internal and External) around the rapid evaluation of problems, giving specialist advice with the preparation and presentation of solutions

Interact and liaise with inter-departments, communication of efficient and accurate design information
Qualifications/Skills (essentials):
-
You will be educated to Bachelor’s Degree level or above ideally in Mechanical or Structural Engineering, and/or possess 2 years’ experience within a relevant discipline. Graduates with relevant knowledge will be considered.
You will also have:

An excellent appreciation of practical mechanical engineering; complimented with theoretical approaches

Proficient in the use of CAD tools – 2D Drafting and 3D Modelling, including Finite Element; ideally Solid Works

Be able to interpret complex engineering drawings;

Good communication and team working skills;

An ability to work in an environment with flexibility and adaptability to meet challenging deadlines;

A high level of computer literacy with an ability to communicate effectively at all levels on technical issues;

To be a determined, enthusiastic engineer with motivation and personal drive to succeed

Efficient self-management skills
Qualifications/Skills (desirable):
-
Knowledge and experience of the manufacturing and assembly of components in an engineering environment

A good understanding and experience in the use of Mathcad
-
Experience in understanding and interpreting design standards and specifications

Knowledge within a Civil / Structural environment is desirable but not essential
