As principal contractor for a major power producer, Ekspan is carrying out a 4 year programme of major refurbishment works on the High Head Pipeline - replacing the existing High Head Pipeline concrete supports with new composite/stainless steel pipe support bearings generally located 500mm above ground level, but some also in very difficult areas where the pipeline is above 2000mm from ground level.
Specialist Projects
Ekspan was responsible for the one-off manufacture, surface treatment and installation of Foxton Pedestrian Swing Bridge, running track, pintle, locking mechanism and buffer/decelerator units - located at Foxton Locks, Foxton Locks, in Leicestershire.
The Lovell Radio Telescope (a scientific instrument used for astronomical research) at Jodrell Bank Observatory (operating since 1957), is owned and operated by Manchester University. Its large bowl spans a diameter of 76mtrs and stands at a height of 292 feet.
Ekspan was responsible for the design, manufacture and installation of the test rigs which uniquely allow advance testing of fatigue and static loads which could be experienced by a blade during operation.
As components approach the end of their working life spares are supplied and replaced as an ongoing maintenance schedule. Jacking offshore bridge structures is common practice to enable maintenance to be successfully completed.
Ekspan carried out sealing works on the BBC Broadcasting House building in Paddington London. This involved sealing the gap between ground water buildings (one a new building and the other an old building) using a water tight type seal. This work involved working within confined spaces.
As a company focused on movement control of structures, Ekspan are able to engineer specialist solutions for difficult and unusual movement problems. Ekspan has delivered a number of projects requiring bespoke solutions.
