The Lovell Radio Telescope (a scientific instrument used for astronomical research) at Jodrell Bank Observatory (operating since 1957), is owned and operated by Manchester University. Its large bowl spans a diameter of 76mtrs and stands at a height of 292 feet.

Ekspan was commissioned to carry out repairs to the wheel girder splice of the telescope that had been caused by wear and tear over the years.

 

 

The work involved working from a great height in conjunction with lifting and welding operations. The client, Manchester University, was delighted with our specialist services providing quality workmanship and meeting the works programme timescales.
