Ekspan was responsible for the one-off manufacture, surface treatment and installation of Foxton Pedestrian Swing Bridge, running track, pintle, locking mechanism and buffer/decelerator units - located at Foxton Locks, Foxton Locks, in Leicestershire.
Foxton Pedestrian Swing Bridge
The bridge was manufactured to replicate the original swing bridge which was approximately originally constructed in 1809. Many features of the original bridge were copied to meet planning and English Heritage requirements. The bridge is 10.5m long and 1.2m clear width with European redwood deck boards. The two side trusses are manufactured from hollow section members and the bridge is supported on a 150 ton pintle bearing. The bridge swings through 90o on a fabricated track and two steel tail wheels. The buffer, decelerator and locking mechanism ensure smooth operation of the bridge with security measure to prevent the bridge being left in an unsafe position.
